It bugs me when people disrespect by having Floyd above Rocky in the Top all-time GOATS topic. Especially Rocky fought during the Tough year of boxing never ducking and being older. He deserves more respect imo

I remember in 1953 when I was 6 years old we were visiting some friends & they had a TV. On the TV was Rocky fighting & I saw part of it live. Of course, my family didn't get a TV until 1956! Then it was black & white, only on for maybe 12 hours a day & totally live.

I recall watching Oscar in the 1992 Olympics and how the media became so focused on this new sensation. He went on to give us some great bouts, but the most satisfying to me was the beat down of the arrogant and provoking, Ricardo Mayorga. Few fights rival that fight in the "revenge and shut your mouth" category. Oscar may not be the most likable boxing figure, but most of us are not perfect either. I admire Oscar for what he did for the sport of Boxing and the opportunities that he's given to so many young and professional boxers. Let's not forget the charitable donations that he's done, especially for his beloved East L.A. Muchas gracias, Oscar de la Hoya.

He was a rank tosser who moaned and whined when 'bested' and tried to maul and 'nut' his way out of trouble when things got difficult. He had his good points in the early part of his career, but when his stamina wained, he applied tactics that your referees hadn't the guts to overrule. And a messiah he ain't!

Del Harris was right to keep Kobe on the bench, he played 15 minutes per game his rookie year. The Lakers were a very talented team after signing Shaq, not a bottom-dweller who needed to put fans in the stands. Kobe was allowed to mature more and come into his own without it being forced upon him. People have forgotten a lot of the ups and downs of Kobe's career. But I guarantee you, Kobe riding the bench most of his rookie year was the best thing for him and for the team. The league wasn't filled with 21 year olds like it is now. Kobe was 18 in a really grown man's game, far more physical. The trade for Kobe was a long-term bet for the Lakers, not an immediate solution. And it gave Kobe something to work towards. It's also important for young people to remember that Kobe saw it as a challenge, not as a reason to shut down and pout.

Imagine Montell Griffin's horror when he realized he just got the piss beat out of him by Roy, but then managed to win because Roy hit him while he was on a knee. Griffin's terror of knowing he has to face that man again in the ring very soon. And Roy made no mistake that time.

I've said it once and I will say it again. It seems to me that virtually any black person you ask will refuse to acknowledge the greatness of Rocky Marciano. If you sum up all the attributes that make a great fighter Rocky will be at the top of the heavyweights, you can come to only one conclusion, he was the greatest.
